massage therapy
Tuina (pronounced "tuī ná") massage therapy is an integral part of Traditional Eastern Medicine. It is effective in the relief of stress-related ailments, in self-treatment and in preventive health care. Tuina releases tension, increases circulation and reduces pain. The words Tui Na translate into "push-grasp" or "poke-pinch" in Chinese. Tuina's massage-like techniques range from light stroking to deep-tissue work and in treatments a series of pressing, tapping, and kneading with palms, fingertips, knuckles or implements will be perforned. Tuina is similar to principles of acupuncture, moxibustion, and acupressure in that it helps the body remove blockages along the meridians and stimulates the flow of qi and blood to promote healing. Tuina has no side effects and has been used to treat or compliment the treatment of many conditions, especially specific musculo-skeletal disorders and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory, and reproductive systems. |
